Anxiety: Emotionally Based School Avoidance

The Educational Psychology Service has produced two bitesize training videos for schools to help raise awareness on the issues around Emotionally Based school avoidance and how schools can support children and young people who are experiencing difficulties in this area. This first video is an introduction to EBSA and the second includes details on interventions and tools for schools to support young people experiencing EBSA.

The service has also worked with other agencies to produce an EBSA support directory which details the support a range of agencies can give to schools in their work with EBSA.

What You’ll Learn

  1. An introduction to Emotionally based School Avoidance (EBSA). This includes a definition of EBSA, predisposing risk factors, an overview of the push, pull framework and next steps on support and intervention.
  2. risk factors and the Push and Pull Framework. It describes how schools can identify those at risk of EBSA and gives an introduction to the different levels of interventions (depending on the push/pull factors identified) and helpful tools for schools to be aware of.
